Casual atmosphere restaurant focusing on burgers and fry type food. It's the kind of dive-type restaurant with peanut shells you throw on the floor. Our group of 4 was seated immediately around 4pm. We ordered different types of burgers, onion blossom and chicken tenders. The piña colada daiquiri was good. My Fried Mac & Cheese Burger was really good, it was an explosion of Mac and cheese in a good way. Great place to have a casual, relaxing meal.

The food was pretty good- cheeseburgers were great. We also got the grouper fingers which were greasy but good. The service was pretty good, our waitress was attentive and helpful. My main reason for 3 stars is the bugs. We saw 4 roaches after eating and one small scorpion like thing fell into my hair, a Beatle fell on my hand. When I told the woman at the front she said "you're not from here are you". I feel there was a nicer way to say this, and that no matter where you are from bugs falling on you during dinner is not desirable. They need to clean up the peanuts from the ground so they stop attracting so many bugs- this is common sense.

Nothing fancy, but definitely a great stop while in Surfside. Get a burger. They have about 20 to choose from and it's their thing. Big, juicy, lots of delicious toppings. We also had the fried zucchini and mushrooms. The mishrooms are huge and a great app to share. Zucchini is sliced and crisp. If available, a table at the 3rd floor dining room will get you the best view.

Food was average, service was okay, our waitress forgot our drinks for about 20 minutes when we finally asked her Overall everything was ok, I don't think il go there again

When going for a local burger, this is the place to go. The staff is polite and friendly. Their burgers are just delicious, and they'll put anything you want on them (nearly). My glass of sweet tea is never empty, and when I leave, they ask if I'd like a fill up to take with me. The onion rings are home made, and my preference is for thinner ones, but these are huge, about 1 inch thick! There is outdoor seating on the second story with a phenomenal view of the ocean. I love this burger place and will be back.

3rd floor outdoor seating on the beach I'd say that's right where I want to be. I got the Texas BBQ burger. The reason I chose this burger was because of the onion rings and bacon! I also had the sweet potato waffle fries dipped in ranch. One of my favorites!

Went here last week with my gf on vacation. I come to myrtle beach yearly and this is my go to for burgers. Service was a bit slow and the interior of the restaurant had an odd scent to it maybe from the carpets outside the restroom but we sat on near deck so it was nice. The onion rings are massive and delicious I highly recommend them. My gf had the bacon and bbq burger and I had the spicy one with jalapeño, I can't remember the name. Service was excellent with the place being packed on a Friday and the food was great. I highly recommend it. I'd ask to sit outside of its not oppressively hot and the scent inside bothers you a bit.

Psst! Hey! Vegetarians, read this. This classic burger joint has all the trappings of a beach shack with fries. However, don't let it fool you. Behind all the hand-drawn graffiti of patrons gone by, underneath the piles of discarded peanut shells, you'll find something you won't easily find elsewhere around here - a really good hand made char grilled toppings galore veggie burger! By the way, I didn't even bother with the fries, as others here can tell you - you really, really need to try the super-huge onion ring appetizer. I have to say, these onion rings are the best dang rings I've had in a long time. The service and staff were great too. Cheers!

Love the atmosphere, located on the ocean, great views! Fork and knife burger was awesome!! Service is great! Awesome place to eat!

Please don't eat here. We just finished our meal and I'm feeling queasy. Here's why: Service: decent, friendly enough Atmosphere: different, but dirty. Peanut shells all over the floor, everything was sticky Food: terrible. Blooming onion was average. My shrimp po boy was more like fried breading on stale bread, maybe 1oz of shrimp total. My fries were very clearly frozen and reheated. My fiance said his burger tasted wrong and made him feel ill. Most importantly, COCKROACHES. We saw a large one come out of the kitchen while we were eating. Very unsettling.

Been here several times, this wasn't the best time but it was very busy. We went at dinner time with a group of 12, so the long wait was expected. But, our food took a really long time and a lot of it was cold. So between the wait to be seated, for food, and to eat it was a 3 hour adventure for Hamburgers. My advice is hit this place up early in the day around lunch time. Because they really do have great burgers and you can't beat the view.

Food was good and what you expect. Greasy food heaven. I had the Shrimp Po'Boy and Sweet Potato Waffle fries. Very good. My brother had the Crispy Chicken Sandwich with Onion Rings and we traded. Very casual atmosphere. Only thing we didn't like was the wait. They told us it would be an hour and 15 mins. It ended being almost an hour and 40 mins so please be patient or get here early like 3 or 4PM. Otherwise you will wait during peak season. Our waitress was nice and attentive :)

River city is our first stop at the beach. As soon as we make it to surfside and before we check in to our condo we have a late lunch. Usually packed and have to wait a few mins. Worth it though!! They have any type of burger you can think of and a bunch of non burger things also! Not a fan of the fries or onion rings but will take a burger each time and trust me, it's enough to fill you up!! Love the vibe of the place, peanut shells, writing on the walls, mismatch tables and chairs.

Egh! My family likes this place better than me. I honestly just see it as bar food. Prices are ok, as this sits right in the ocean. Kids can get burgers, chicken fingers, fries, etc. I've been here 4-5 times. Nothing woes me about the food, but you can get great views of the ocean if you get a window seat. This is a good place to go if you want some food and don't want to leave the beach front. I'll go back due to the convenience of their location.

I love this burger joint. It's not fancy, but the food is great! The burgers are always big and taste fresh. Their fries and sweet potato waffle fries are good sides. The service is good, too. The restaurant is ocean front and even has an open air seating area that's sometimes open. Great views of the ocean and good food always makes for a great time!

Very affordable and consistent great quality. Great burgers! A great place for lunch or quick dinner. I have never walked away unsatisfied.

Walked in after a 2 mile walk on the Beach and noticed the bar was half full. Sat down and the woman who I thought was the bartender didn't even look my direction. Within 30 seconds of sitting down and seeing that Desiree came from the other side and asked if someone had helped me, I said no. She immediately took control and I was now happier. Starving I ordered any sweet IT and took a look at the menu. I ordered a Black n Blue burger and Desiree made it happen. She made my experience much more enjoyable with her professionalism and great attitude. Being a local I will be back and will make sure she is my server or bartender! Great Job Desiree! Thanks for the Hospitality!

A cheeseburger with a view!! This was a great spot to grab a cheeseburger at the beach. The food was reasonably priced and it is right on the ocean. I had the cheeseburger with pimento cheese on it, and it was a great choice as it had the perfect flavor. The service was great and there was no wait when we visited. Hope to visit again the next time we are at the beach.

Turkey burger was delicious. They give you free peanuts and the servers are really friendly. Enjoy the beautiful ocean view from the balcony. Highly recommended.

TAKEOUT REVIEW I recall going here maybe last year, ate in and wasn't impressed at all. This time we had an extended day at the beach and decided to get takeout from here. Hamburgers were pretty good. I had a mahi sandwich which was also pretty good with a decent portion. Not the best seasoning in the world but not bad. Kids got some chicken tenders which were fairly large chunks of white meat chicken. I have to say, these were really good. Maybe it was the beach famished stomach talking but they were well seasoned, juicy and tasty. Fries were pretty good too. So there you have it. Good stuff for takeout at the beach.

Some folks go to MickyD's and order a salad. Others go to a Chinese Buffet and snag slices of crappy pizza. Some nutballs even go to Waffle House looking for yogurt. All these folks have the IQ of a Styrofoam peanut! So this is a burger and onion ring place so get with the program and ORDER THE BURGER AND ONION RINGS! You can get any kind of burger you want. They have right side up burgers and upside down burgers and singles and doubles and different buns and all kinds of cheese and toppings and even a Kitchen Sink burger ($13) that must be a foot high and a Cardiologist's wet dream. So take my subtle hint and order a burger! Next are the onion rings and they are the best on the planet. People Magazine should do a cover- "Most Beautiful Onion Rings in the World!" Five of these bad boys will cost you $4.99. Every bite is pure calorie laden heaven. You can have any adult libation you want here, especially beer. Whatever you drink, its purpose is to wash down the cholesterol! As you eat and drink yourself into a stupor, enjoy the killer view. A fellow Yelper said this place has a Key Westish divey bar feel and that is the perfect term. Plan on spending a while here because the service can be spotty. When it gets really busy, which is often, the servers and kitchen lose control and the wait can be annoying. If it wasn't for the spotty service I'd go four stars but because of that I need to say three. If you visit MB and don't come here your body may thank you but your spirit will be forever diminished.

This place is great! I moved away and dream about it. Refined it is not cool it is. Yes the food is greasy but it is good. They have great burgers and peanuts you throw on the floor. It is a great place for a burger and a beer. It is usually crowed so you might have to wait. Love it!

    (5)
  • Laurie K.

Best burger I have ever had. Hands down!!!! The staff was friendly. The bacon burger delish. The onion rings superb. And although there was a long wait we were able to eat at the bar without a wait.

    (5)
  • Steve S.

Customer service is horrible. We were told 30 minute wait when we showed up. Have been waiting an hour and twenty minutes thus far and still have one party in front of us. This is on a monday! Don't make our mistake, no food is worth waiting in a cramped area full of kids while being mislead just to get you to stay.

Every time I come to Surfside my first stop is always River City Cafe. The decor with the license plates and tiki theme, and the amazing view of the beach as you eat are only a few reasons as to why you should dine here. The staff has always been beyond friendly and the food is always incredibly delicious. I keep reading in the other reviews about how great their burgers are, but for me it's their chicken sandwich. The chicken is always grilled to perfection, very juicy, and fresh tasting. If you're looking for a place to try in the Surfside area look no further, you have found the perfect bar and grill.

Iama Critic Rating - River City Cafe - 5 Stars 11 North Seaside Drive, Surfside Beach, SC Overall: River City Cafe is a hot, tiny restaurant with seriously slow seating if they get busy, and they were. But they are my kind of restaurant. Great food, reasonable prices, in an interesting atmosphere, right on the beach and next to a fishing pier. If you are in Surfside Beach and don't go to River City Cafe, it is your loss. We on the other hand, will be back! $2.99 - Side Salad - 3 Stars It is just a step above average in that it was loaded with cheese. Other than that it is ordinary. $4.49 - Chili -4 Stars This is my kind of chili. Loaded with big chunks of everything. It was so thick you could eat it with a fork! It won't win any tournaments, but it is in the top 10%. I am going to deduct one star because the bowl was a little small. $6.98 - Grilled Chicken Sandwich - 5 Stars Came with Monterrey jack cheese. The chicken is well hidden in all those condiments, but it was a big, juicy, breast and perfectly cooked. Good sandwich for the health conscious! $4.99 - Onion Rings - 4 Stars When I dine out I usually do so without concern for price, which I only concern myself with later, after I have enjoyed my food. These onion rings were utterly phenomenal, easily in the top two or three rings I have ever had. Even the sauce was perfect. But wow, even as huge as these rings are, $1 per onion ring is a serious price. I just don't know if any onion ring appetizer can be worth that much per ounce and still be 5 star! $13.00 - Kitchen Sink Burger - 5 Stars - THE KING OF BURGERS Fair Warning: If you have a cholesterol problem, do not even look at the colossal, incredible, 10" tall savory monument will set you back $13, but it is worth every last heart stopping penny! I am serious! This burger not only looks fantastic, it is a mouth watering delight!!! But you have to be a real "Monster Burger" connoisseur to be able to properly enjoy this burger. I cut it vertically in slices, like a cake, and ate it in wedges! Sadly the homemade fries, which are plain and unseasoned, simply can't hold a candle to the burger, so I fed them to the fish, from the pier on the beach just outside the River City Cafe. This is the kind of burgers we will eat in Heaven, but you can have one the next time you are in Surfside Beach!

All I can say is that I love the food!!! I order the chicken platter with fries I was able to substitute my Cole slaw with onion rings, my children were pleased with their meal. We ate our lunch on the balcony overlooking the ocean. While waiting for our meal we were giving a basket of peanuts unlike other patrons we put our shells in the basket. At River City Cafe you're allowed to throw your shells on the ground. This is a bit disgusting to me my daughter because if you're on inside it smells and if you're on the balcony it attracts pigeons in which we had to keep shooing away. Over all the food is reasonably priced, waitresses was awesome. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 they should clean the peanut shells off the floor after each patron leaves.

We were pleasantly surprised by this place. Stopped by to grab a quick bite before hitting the beach and the food was great. Very good burger and Mahi sandwiches. We will be back.

Nasty. Food wasn't all that bad but the place was so dirty that I'm debating getting a tetanus shot.

  • Brian G.

Loud. Brash. Fun. Great burgers, good fries and lots of choices for drinks. Far and away the best feature of this restaurant is the ocean view. Right at the peer without any obstructions. Prices are good for beach food. Burger platter ~$9.00. Kind of place with unlined peanuts in the shell, and toss the shells on the floor.

    (4)
  • Chris K.

Great burger - good variety of burgers too. We always stop here when visiting to sit outside, look at the ocean and have a burger and a beer. No need to order separate fries for each - there's enough to share.

    (4)
  • Amy W.

Fun. Incredible food. Wait staff was attentive and didn't even get mad when my 4 year old spilled her drink almost immediately. I had the mahi sandwich and it was so flavorful.

We stopped here while on vacation the beach. The burgers were great along with the cold beers and ocean view as we say outside. I wish I could say the same about the service. First our waitress asked us if we "wanted fried or rings with our burger". To me this implied they were included with the burger, which was not the case. She also brought us the check before asking if we wanted anything else or asking if we were done. We had planned on a few more drinks but we went elsewhere to spend our money and clearly she was done waiting I us.

    (1)
  • Rob K.

Great lunch spot. Burgers are solid, pretzel bun is awesome and the view is good too! The onion rings are really good and the sweet tea is on point. We sat outside on a nice day. Watch out for those damn pigeons.

  • Lisa G.

Great food! I'm vegan and they had a vegan burger really hard to find accommodating places at myrtle beach. So happy we went here! The burger was also super good!! Food took a little long but it was very good, good service as well.

  • Leigh T.

Casual, Peanuts on the floor, cold beer, great burgers, good sides/appetizers/bar food and amazing location - right on the water! Great for kids too! They sat our table of 11 in less than 10 minutes!

  • Jeremiah M.

You can just about get anything you want on a burger. I had an egg on mine. My wife had shrimp on hers. You can even get peanut butter on one. We will definitely be going back to try other burgers. Onion rings were very good. You cannot beat the view, it's right on the ocean next to the pier.

Had eaten at a River City nears Murrells Inlet but decided to try this one which is on the ocean. You have be good with meat to like this place! The hamburgs are juicy and really great. Many combinations to choose from. Fries are homemade and tasty but the onion rings are what this place is all about. The service was good, view nice and a fun place which gives you peanuts in the shell to start. Would go back for sure.

  • Jena F.

My husband and I stayed at the resort next door and the man at the hotel recommended this place. We decided to try it and it was great! My husband had the mac n cheese burger and chili cheese fries...he couldn't say enough great things about his meal. I had the palmetto burger and onion rings. Everything was delicious and the portions were huge! I took half my food back to the hotel with us.

    (4)
  • Michael I.

Great burgers BUT, be particular where you to to get that burger as there are several River City Cafés...a locals and my favorite is the one in Murrells Inlet...the burgers are jus, well, better! The one in Surfside caterers to the ubiquitous tourists crowd therefore not so keen on prep and delivery, after all who wants to wait on a bunch of irritating pushy, and ungrateful tourists. To noisy, to busy, to much smell of Hawaiian Tropics Lotion... The one on 21st ave albeit serves a myriad of tourists is very generous and well preped. The wait staff is over worked and therefore short and curt but still affable. Over all if you crave a good burger that does not taste like cardboard or come in a cardboard box, try it. Oh if you like thick cut onion rings this one is for you...I for one do not care for them but they are tasty.

  • Timmy K.

River City Cafe has been a place that many people have suggested I try out for some time. They have a great menu with lots of inexpensive burger options (fries are extra). The sandwiches - although fabulous looking were cold, the fries....cold. Some have suggested I try them again as it sounds like I visited on an 'off night' so I'll try again. River City's staff wear shirts that proclaim 'It's all about the burger' which is why we were here. So if 'it's all about the burger' and we didn't like the burgers then there was really no point in coming to River City Cafe.

    (2)
  • Mikie M.

Very nice place burgers were great. Mine came out wrong the first time but was quickly fixed. Lot of neat stuff to look at while you wait. Kids loved the fact that you could throw your free peanut shells on the floor. All in all a great place to go. Food was well priced.

After reading other reviews and talking to others we were a bit hesitant about the service. It just goes to show it really depends on the person as we had a great experience. Desiree seated us promptly in the busy dining room and apologized for the meager 2 minute wait. We asked her many questions about the menu, and not only did she have all the answers, but she also made some great suggestions. We got the Mac and Cheese Burger and the Nacho Burger; both were absolutely delicious! Try something you can't get at your local tavern. The flavor combinations were awesome and creative. We also ordered margaritas. Based on some other restaurants in the area, we were worried; most were extremely weak (questionable as to whether they even had any booze) but the drinks here were great! We had a good buzz going after one... Fries were also yummy! We had the gravy fries. But be warned - you have to order them separate from the burger. One order was plenty for two! A lot of reviews talk about it being dirty or a "dive" bar. It's not a five start restaurant, people!!! Yet it's great for what it is - a beachy, yummy, fun place!

Was in there last week with a big group of 15 golfers. They seated us quickly - moved some tables around to make it work. The peanuts are a perfect warm-up. We order apps and dinners and everything was delicious. The wings and blooming onion were very good. My chicken philly was done just right and a perfect size portion. The other guys all said positive things about their sandwiches as well. The bartenders and wait staff was very personable and attentive. We even got some free birthday cake slices as it was one of the staff's birthday! Very cool, casual place and priced just right. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Holy cow, great burger! I had the continental burger which was topped with a fried egg, hickory smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, American cheese and mayo. We split an order of fries which were hand-cut and seasoned perfectly. While waiting on our order we split salted peanuts and threw the shells on the floor. All of this while having a few beers on the third floor overlooking the Surfside Pier. It was great food and a great experience, one I will look to repeat on our annual trips to the area!

  • Heidi G.

This place is a beach front dive but in a good way. We visit here as a family every time we are in SC. This week we went twice. It is wet, sticky, slippery and everyone throws peanut shells on the floor. That said, you can't get a better beach vibe and they have the best burgers. Try the Nacho Burger!

  • Lindsey N.

The atmosphere was really cool. Great view of the beach out of the windows. Service was a little slow but our waitress was very nice. The food was amazing, we all got burgers. Great variety and lots of interesting options on the menu. It was hard to decide, everything looked delicious. The prices seemed lower than most restaurants around. Definitely going there again.

My boyfriend and I went to RCC on July 3rd. We got there at 8pm, told the hostess we'd like to sit outside, and we were told we'd have a 40 min wait. We expected that. We sat at the bar, had a couple beers, after an hour went by, we asked the hostess if we had been forgotten, since there were 4 open tables inside the bar and 3 tables open outside (where we were waiting to sit.) She forgot about us. We sit outside, didn't get greeted for 10 min. Ordered our food, waited an hour. We finally got our food, it was decent. Not worth an hour wait though. The manager walked around the restaurant all night, and not ONCE did he ask us if everything was okay, or apologize for the wait, and his mediocre hostess. The server, naturally, was apologetic. The server was lucky that I bartend and understand that it wasn't her fault. I am disappointed in the management - he goofed off with the bartender and could care less about his patrons. This was a slow Wednesday night at 9! unacceptable.

  • Chris S.

Burgers, fries and beer selection all good (not great, but good). Our server was very attentive, prices were reasonable and location was great. If it's open, I recommend eating on the third floor for a great view, but it's only open one or two days a week when it's busy.

  • Emma M.

What can I say? Great service, great food! I got the fried Mac and cheese burger and fries, and it did not disappoint. The burger was crispy and juicy, and the fries were perfect. I hear the onion rings are great as well! Our server was friendly and we got our food fast. My only complaint is the decor was a bit tacky and the peanut shells got on my nerves. Other then that, it was awesome.

This place was good in the past but last night the to go order we placed was all wrong and not very tasty. The chicken was overcooked and tough. The fries are usually nice and large but last night it was like leftover. Very small and not good. I'm not sure what happened to this place but the view will always be great! Went again last weekend. July 4th and it was great. New fries are better too. Please give this place a try. Kudos to them for getting it back!

This is the best burger joint on the beach! We had the knife and fork and the philly burger and the were awesome. Also loved the sweet potato fries. If you want a burger you won't be disappointed.

  • B K.

It was hot and sticky in the bar. Ordered the world famous onion rings. They never came. They looked great but we never got to taste them. Burgers were good and reasonable and the beer was cold. Only thing that saved them.

  • Heather G.

Went here bc I heard they were known for their burgers. I ordered the Montery burger and it was really good!! The sweet potato fries were also delish. Would def go back and try a different burger.

  • Caroline B.

We went with a large group and they sat us quickly. The waitress was so sweet, and very very attentive. We were all pleased with our meals. I got the basic cheeseburger, and it was delicious! I was very very surprised. The atmosphere is VERY casual, so we weren't sure what to expect. The food was deeeelicious, but mostly fried. The fries were fresh hand cut, but not to die for. In my opinion, pass those up for the onion rings.

  • Kris T.

We vacation in the area and decided to try this place for lunch. After being seated, our server, Kacie (who was AWESOME, by the way) told us they were known for their burgers. I ordered the Texas BBQ burger and it was amazing!!! The sweet potato waffle fries are good, and the onion rings are huge. Two come in a side order, and I could only finish 1. My bf ordered the continental burger and said the same burger at red robin is much better. He asked for the egg to be fried hard and it arrived softer than he prefers. He also ordered the gravy fries. They give you a LOT. Get the gravy on the side so it won't make the fries soggy. The experience was a great one. If you're looking for huge, tasty burgers in a casual environment on the beach, this is your place.

Truly the best burger in Myrtle Beach! My kids stayed entertained drawing everywhere. Priced right. Absolutely can't wait to visit here again!

I've been a fan of this place (and location) for years. We first went here a few years back after coming back from the beach. The location couldn't be better, you are literally on the beach watching the waves roll in. FANTASTIC views. This is the perfect post-beach casual burger joint - peanuts on the floor, cold beer, and picnic tables outside on the deck. Fancy it is not BUT the food is high quality. Nothing is frozen and the toppings are good - in particular I recommend anything with chili on the menu. Also, make sure you order the onion rings, they are monsterously large, freshly breaded and tasty (the chipotle sauce on the side is great)! Again, fancy and healthy it is not, but that isn't the point is it?? The service is top-notch, they really are flexible and friendly especially when you have small children involved! Our waitress seamlessly transitioned us from the bar to our table and managed to seat all seven of us while juggling orders and other customers waiting for a table. If this place was closer to my house I'd be a frequent visitor (and weigh about 50 pounds more!)

Ehh... if you're looking for a fancy place... go elsewhere. If you're looking for a good burger and fries place with a great ocean view, this is your place! I've been to River City Cafe (including a few of their other locations) over the years. I've consistently had good food there. The peanuts are awesome while drinking a cold beer and waiting on your food to arrive. (Yes, don't be alarmed... you are allowed/encouraged to just throw your peanut shells on the floor). My burger was a little too greasy on my most recent visit - but it is a burger, so I guess you have to assume it's gonna be a little greasy. I tried their new sweet potato fried (new addition to the menu) on my most recent trip - they are awesome!

River City Cafe is a regular stop for drinks when coming off the beach, but I hadn't eaten there until this past weekend. What a surprise! Being a beachfront restaurant/bar, I didn't have high hopes. However, after discovering that River City is owned by Divine Dining Group (which runs several of our favorite restaurants in the Surfside/Myrtle Beach area), we decided to try the food. The menu offers a variety of appetizers and sandwiches, along with a huge number of specialty burgers, which is what we opted for. While none of the burgers include particularly exotic ingredients, a pleasing number of standard favorites (swiss & mushroom, cheddar burger, chili cheeseburger, etc.) are present along with a few signature options (pimento cheeseburger, jalapeno burger., black -n-bleu burger). I had a cheddar burger, which was fresh, hot, and fantastic and the veggies on it (lettuce, onion, tomato) were also all fresh. I had fries with the burger, which were homemade/cut onsite. My husband loved them; I was less excited. In fairness, I'm not a huge fan of natural fries. They did taste fresh and not at all greasy. Hubby thought they were amazing and he is fairly picky, so I'll leave it at that! :) We were also pleased with the service. Our waitress (Desiree, I think) greeted us immediately, even though the restaurant was packed. Her service was very attentive and consistent. She also seemed sincerely interested in our having a great dining experience, which was refreshing considering that she must surely deal with tons of tourists, which can be wearing. We were very pleased with River City Cafe and will certainly be back. I highly recommend it!

I liked my burger. My wife said her chicken salad was okay, nothing special. Service was a bit poor. If I wanted a burger again, I'd go back, but not for anything special.

Had the three-alarm fireburger and my brother and I split chili cheese fries. The burger was okay, came some extra condiments I could have done without (yellow mustard), but overall was as advertised as a spicy burger. Chili cheese fry portion was rather small and the fries looked pretty limp. Our waitress looked pretty miserable but wasn't the slowest. All the beach magazines say this lace is good for kids but they don't have a kids menu, or one was never offered to my 5 and 9 year old nieces. When you're absolutely tired from driving and want to walk to dinner, go for it, but I wouldn't go out of my way for a meal here.

This place is right around the corner from the beach house we've rented for the past two summers for our family's vacation. We've been here for probably 4 lunches over the 2 trips. In my experience, River City Cafe can be counted on for a great mahi sandwich and really good french fries. Service has been "meh," and I'm not a huge fan of the peanut shells all over the place, but it's a casual beach place and so it's not a big deal. Seriously the best mahi sandwich I've ever had. Their tartar sauce is the bomb too!

I tried out the Surfside location tonight with my husband - this was the first time we had been to any of this restaurant's locations. My initial impression was that it seemed a little dirty. The bottom floor where you check in smelled like a public bathroom, there was some kind of substance that might have once been food that was caked onto the stairs and there were peanut shells all over the floor. After sitting down and taking in my surroundings, the peanut shells were just part of the ambience - you can take a bowl of peanuts for free and toss the shells on the ground. The other two issues are only dealt with when entering or leaving the restaurant. I was interested in trying one of the over 20 different burgers, and figured they must be good. I ordered a garden salad and the three alarm fire burger, replacing the beef with a chicken breast for a reasonable price. The salad had a bit too much shredded cheese, but was fine otherwise. When the burgers came out, I was underwhelmed. The buns were stone cold as though they had just been taken out of a refrigerator and were the type of thin, deflated, boring bun you would find on a McDonald's cheeseburger. The rest of the burger was uninteresting. It was definitely not "three-alarm" and the pickled jalapeños were barely spicy. Maybe they need some fresher toppings to go along with their fresh, never frozen meat. My husband's burger was, as he put it, "thoroughly unmemorable." I expected more from a Divine Dining restaurant based on the other restaurants in the group I've visited, but I will have to do more research next time. If you're looking for a good burger with quality ingredients, pass on this place.

Ate here 2 times this week. Burgers are good but not as great as they should be if burgers are your specialty. Service leaves a great deal to be desired. After ordering on my second visit not one person got their burger fixed as they ordered it if they varied from the menu. Waiter NEVER refilled our drinks. The view is great and you can come in straight off the beach in a bathing suit. It's good just not great.

In thinking of one word to describe the experience here, all I can think of is DREK. Yes, the view is lovely, and yes you can munch peanuts to your heart's content, but they're not even mostly fresh peanuts. For some reason these guys think it's okay to make cheese fries by spreading cheese over the fries and then STEAMING them. Hmmm. That's a real nice idea if what you're after is sweaty, greasy, COLD cheese fries. Simple physics. Evaporation is a COOLING process. I'm surprised that with all of the dough they're hauling in because of their location, they can't spring for a "Salamander". This is a top broiler that can be mounted over a grill. These folks tend to leave food in the window way too long, which, sorry if it's busy, is a BAD idea. That leads to cold food which you will eat simply because you are hungry and then not complain about because you're on vacation or something and want to be nice. Well, honestly, if someone who was loitering around the window wouldn't mind checking the ticket that goes with the food, perhaps they also wouldn't mind delivering it quickly. Nope. Instead your server might just wait until the other plate comes to the pass, which may be a few minutes later. So, one person gets something hot, maybe. This is simply UNACCEPTABLE behavior in food service. Honestly, if your expeditor doesn't have the skills to get two plates up at the same time, and your staff can't take it upon themselves to give a rat's patoot about taking another server's food to a paying customer, perhaps you should stick with peanuts. And try to make them fresh, please.

This place is nothing fancy but has great food. The burgers are fabulous. I got a taco salad and could finish it. It was very busy on a Sunday so the food was a little slow. It was easy waiting while munching on free peanuts.

I've been to this place several times over the years and had varying service and food quality. On my most recent trip I ordered a grilled onion burger with onion rings and coleslaw. The burger and coleslaw were fine with better than average buns. Unfortunately the terrible batter made my 2 oversized onion rings unbearable. My wife opted for the shrimp po boy with fries which she said was too greasy. The staff is friendly and helpful. The upstairs beach view outdoor seating is superb. I might try this again and hope for better, but there are definitely better places in the area to eat.

This is one of our families top five places to enjoy. Great to have a sandwich and iced tea after a hot day on the beach. The view is of the ocean, beautiful. Family friendly as well... Great wait staff and reasonable good food.

I loved this place! I went here while on vacation and I loved it once I walked in the door. The serve you basically unlimited peanuts and you can just through the shells anywhere! You can bring a pen or permanent maker and write anywhere you want, even on the ATM. The food was good, but i would not say amazing. Even though the food was not amazing you have to go because of the experience! It is so much fun!

*** Careful of the virgin drinks*** Our family was there after the July 4th holiday week, so the area was still very busy. I had ordered a burger, since the menu noted how good their burgers were, and requested it be made medium, it came out well done. Human error I guess, I can kinda live with this. The place has a Key Westish divey bar feel, its OK, I kinda liked it. We also ordered a virgin frozen slush pina colada for the kids. When receiving the slush, I asked to make sure it was NON alcoholic, the young girl went to double check, one she said it was NON alcoholic we drank it and gave some to our kids, one of which was a 2 year old. The same girl came racing back and said it did have alcohol, and told us they would make a new one right away. OK so far, but mistake although. At the end, the restaurant had the nerve to charge us for the alcohol pina colada, citing that we did not give it back. By the time they told us it had alcohol in it, it was half done. They knew it was given to children and still had the nerve to charge at ALL. Even though this was a mistake, they had the chance to make right. I asked our waitress, "Gay", I'm guessing short for "Gayle" that this was wrong and she agreed. She also added that they only charged me for one drink, when they had given us two, this only happened because of there mistake. This was stated as if they were doing me a favor! Yes, doing me a favor of giving a 2 year old baby a alcoholic drink when you first tell me it had NO alcohol. She said although if I wanted to complain to a manager, the money would be taken out of her pay, isn't this always the fall back answer for wait staff. So I said fine, I just took it out of her tip, being from the northeast, I typically tip 20%. Being that this location and restaurant is heavy in tourism, the attitude maybe just to screw the customers, as you may never see them again, as opposed to a non tourist area getting local regulars. Overall, the decor and vibe is fine, our waitress was kind, but I dont agree at all for charging us for their MISTAKE, very unfair. And on top of it all, their burgers aren't even that good! Worth a check, just don't expect much and be careful of virgin non alcohol drinks. Good luck.

Food is good, it's a hamburger house. But 6 of us go in for some quick apps and cocktail. 4 of the 6 of us order Scotch. But.....NO SCOTCH! Seriously ? How much does one bottle of Dewars cost, that you can't keep it in house. UGH. We are out of here.

Went with our two daughters last night. Great food and great service, we were skeptical at first but turned out great. Pricing is fabulous, especially for a vacation destination. We will be back!!

My family dined here for a late lunch (about 2pm) this past Friday and had a fabulous experience!!!! They were very busy, but the servers while walking fast were all so nice and accommodating. Ours was wonderful!!!! My son ordered the grilled cheese kids plate, husband had a burger, and I had a turkey burger. My husband swapped out one of the sauces on it for another and it was not a problem. I had they turkey burger that comes with Doritos on it and asked my server to take them off as it did not sound very good to me. She mentioned that she felt the same at first then had it and loves it and suggest I get them on the side. very happy I listened to her. She was right, it was amazing!!!! We shared bacon and cheese fries. When its all said and done, its a beach place. However, the food was great and service too. My husband went back and bought a shirt before we left to go home on Sunday. Highly suggest this place!!!

This was my favorite restaurant in Surfside Beach. I went there a few times when vacationing in Surfside Beach - the food were great! Also loved the view of the ocean from the patio outside.

It took 20 minutes to be asked what we wanted to drink and I had to go find the server to get her to ask us. 25 minutes later we got our drinks, again only after I went after her and asked her where our drinks were and she replied with a laugh "oops I forgot, I placed your order if that helps"!! Unbelievable!! It was still another 10 before we got our food. It was good once it arrived, but they have a serious service problem!!!!

First went to River City when my kids were small years ago. They loved to throw the peanut shells on the floor. So when in Mrytle Beach it is a tradition to eat at least one meal there. Since we have grown as a family this trip included grandkids. River City has grown too and has 7 locations now not just the original one with license plates on the wall. You can still get peanuts and throw the shells on the floor. The cheese sticks were a good choice for appetizers. Salads were ordered and they were very fresh. Everyone ordered the burgers. We had swiss and mushroom, bacon burgers, Tex mex burger and had trouble choosing from over 20 varieties. No one was adventurous enough to try the Peanut butter one or the Smore one with nutella. Of course you can order a chicken sandwich, philly , ruebens, etc. but why would you? The burgers are why you go here. They are fresh and never frozen and they are delicious. The fries are good too as well as the huge onion rings. This restaurant is right on the water and the breeze on the second floor just made it very comfortable to eat and sit and watch the waves. Our waitress was outstanding. The hostess did not seem to be able to figure out how to seat 11 people and had us sitting at the bar. She stepped in and put some tables together for us right by the windows and we were able to enjoy a wonderful family dinner. Look for coupons in local magazines for money off on a platter or a free shirt when you buy one. It is a great place to eat!

River City Cafe is a local chain owned by the Divine Dinning Group. It has various locations across the beach. Each location is slightly different with its own crowd. The one off of 21st ave. caters to the tourist market but you can spot locals there as well. The food is pretty good. A great variety of burgers on there menu gives everyone an option of something to try. (I personally prefer the Black and Blue Burger.) They have great fries and chicken fingers as well. The service can be spotty at times due to the rush of tourist but for the most part pretty well. I do like the fact that they have outdoor patio seating. (There are not that many in Myrtle Beach.) I have been know to bring my dog up here to eat with me as well. A great place to go and have a burger once in a while!

Not very impressed. Average burger. From the logo and the look of the other Divine Dining restaurants I expected a nicer place. Save your money and go for a fast food burger.

We went to this place because it was close to our hotel and we were lazy and didn't want to go somewhere else. We had no idea what to expect. You walk in and there are license plates all over the walls, and graffiti everywhere!! They must hand out permanent markers and ask their customers to write on anything in site. It's a fun atmosphere, though. There is a bucket of peanuts on each table, and you can drop the shells right on the ground, so it appears to be really messy, but it's really just shells. Menu: RCC has about 20 burgers on the menu and my husband ordered the Black Jack Burger with Bacon. He loved it and gave it an "A." I ordered a grilled cheese because I wasn't terribly hungry. It was OKAY at best. The cheese in the very middle wasn't melted all the way and I just wasn't feelin' it. The fries were disgusting! Limp, cold fries. The kind that look dirty. I would grade them a D. The prices were cheap and the atmosphere was great. The wait staff seemed to be all high schoolers, so they weren't the best, but hey, we all need some money! They also have pickup, and you get peanuts with that as well.

Overall feel of the place is very beachy. It's on the second floor of a ocean front building. The walls are covered in signatures and messages from guests over the years (Eva and Gary 2011, see of you can find it). It took a few minutes longer than usual to get our food and there mixed experiences at the table as far as food. I got the three alarm burger and enjoyed it. Notably, though, they didn't ask how I would like it cooked and defaulted it to well done. My girlfriend got a mushroom Swiss that ended up only having two tiny pieces of mushroom on it. They corrected their mistake by giving her a large portion of sautéed mushrooms. She seemed to enjoy the burger then. Another person at the table said their burger was dry, but he might have just wanted to complain about something. The fries looked like they were refried and were very greasy (love it or leave it). Overall not a bad experience but not a five star either.

I have to disagree with everyone. I loved this place! Maybe it was because I was sick of chain restaurants and lousy tourist traps. Perhaps this was a tourist trap also, but I felt right at home in this dive. The floor was strewn with peanut shells and the beer was cold as ice. I was ready to curl up in my booth for the rest of the afternoon. Yes, the food is greasy but you can't possibly have any other expectation upon walking into that atmosphere. I thought everything was scrumptious.

Great location overlooking the ocean. Waitress was nice but somewhat unattentive (had to ask for refills after glasses were empty over 15 minutes). Fries were crispy and delsh. Burger's were just ok (huge bun...smaller burger). I read great reviews and had high hopes (maybe it was just this location) but it was simply so-so. We had much better burgers from Hamburger Joe's. Try that first!

Great burgers. Even better prices. Friendly service and incredible views of the ocean side. This place is great for the whole family!
